If you have your first homeworld on alloys, your 2nd (conquered) homeworld on research, and your 3rd homeworld on research, you're absolutely going to catch up and surpass any research-focused build very quickly.

Using this build I have managed to complete all 3 Ascension paths before year 50 (Synth was definitely the most difficult). And Started repeatable techs by year 100.
